Bring it in, Teach it out
Welcome to Teach It Out, a blog dedicated to encouraging teachers, families and educators to teach outside the classroom walls and to bring the outside world into their learning spaces. We believe that the most engaging and effective teaching happens when content is connected to authentic, real-world situations, and can best be taught by memorable experiences.
Our purpose is to
- inspire educators to feel confident in teaching students in real world locations by focusing on the nuts and bolts of planning, facilitating and debriefing field visits that extend learning from the classroom.
- encourage educators to bring real world experiences into their classroom, utilizing field experts, artifacts and more.
Bring It In! On this blog, I’ll be posting about ways to bring the outside world into your classroom in authentic and meaningful ways. This includes ideas around classroom visits by experts and family members, introducing animals and pets into the class, filling your space with natural greenery and more!
Teach It Out! The majority of content on this blog will focus on ways to move students out of the classroom on field visits, neighborhood walks, interviews and more. We will discuss ways to build your field visits both around emergent interests in the classroom as well as curriculum content. We will answer frequently asked questions about the planning and logistics of field visits, and will highlight educators in the field who are using their knowledge of student-driven studies to lead thoughtful, inquiry-based trips.
Love this! I read this today and thought you might enjoy!
